Light, Camera, and...Gucci!

East Atlanta native Gucci Mane teamed up with Atlanta's own DJ Drama to do a movie? Well not quite. But, The Movie is the title of their new mixtape. Quite a fitting name when it carries tracks titled, Gangsta Movie, I'm a Star, and I Live in a TV. With a supporting cast including Trey Songz, Bun B, Willie the Kid, and Young Joc, The Movie it looks like The Movie might be up for nomination this year.

Discovered the Jewl of Stenchman on Myspace!

As an ever increasing user of MySpace (Couldn't beat 'em so I thought I'd join...) I was sweeping of Nero's Dubstep page when I came across this ridiculous mix that had been posted by Stenchman entitled Stink Mix 2: Poomerang. The mix includes tracks by Pendulum, Skream, Suspicous Stench, Cardopusher, and Nero amongst a wealth of others. Clearly Stenchman is out to kill (some ears) because many of the tunes are dark and exceedingly bass heavy. Wait, deep bass, dark synths, and excess wobble = bliss right?

Kellie Pickler on Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader
Ok, so at first I didn't think this post would have any relevance to music but it was just too funny for me not to share. But I realized that this woman is actually a country singer and her name is Kelly Pickler. Now I know that there are some unintelligent people out there and people really do believe Europe is a country. But honestly I'm going to have to give her the benefit of the doubt and say that she just came on the show drunk. I mean you can tell even Jeff Foxworthy was thinking your acting a little to intense right now. You be the judge...
Japan - Life In Tokyo
I don't know anything about this tune. All I know is it's a great 80's hit ('79 to be exact).
MGMT

It's pretty bad when you have a CD for such a long time and you don't even hear the whole thing. What's worse is when you find a video of a song you really like by the group on youtube and you look to see if they have a new album out just to find it's track 5 on the one you got. Speaking from personal experience, I am now listening to the rest of the MGMT album. The video to track 5, "Kids" is what got me back into them and it just goes to show everybody loves to dance, even your local weatherman. And I'm not opposed to painted faces (i.e. Wes Borland of Limp Bizkit was the king of face paint) but I think they definitely could have done better than cat man and I don't know about the other guy. Anyway the song is awesome!!
NERO - Choices
Every Friday night here in Atlanta, Georgia State's radio station 88.5 WRAS plays two hours of straight Drum 'N Bass. BIG UPS to them because they always play some smashing tunes. Two weeks ago I heard one of the most incredible D&B tunes as I was rolling to a party with my friend Tumi. I was lucky enough to do some detective work and find out who it was by. Check out these boys from England who go by the name of NERO! They are so serious about there D&B and they produce some intense Dub-step too. Here's the song that got me hooked. "Choices." As my man Tumi would say, "This song is on steroids!"

Jackson and His Computer Band
While driving in my car to grab a bite from Subway, not that that matters at all I was listening to Pandora and stumbled upon Jackson and His Computer Band. This French Electro House musician had me sold with his song "Arpeggio." Check it out
Moon River
Kid Koala is a man who wears many hats. A world famous DJ, producer, cartoonist he is packed with raw talent. I recently came across his masterful rendition of the classic tune "Moon River" on youtube and I was left trying to pick my jaw up off my neighbors couch downstairs. "Amy I will pay for the hole in your sealing. . ."
9ice - Street Credibility
Unless you've been in the know (and have been in the know for a while) you probably haven't come across 9ice (pronounced "nice"). Hailing from Nigeria, his new song "Street Credibility" has spread like wildfire back home and apparently his street credibility is unquestionable.

Santogold and Diplo Have a Mixtape? Word...

But that's why I try and check out The Fader everyday. This is pretty sick, Santogold and Diplo have a mixtape out entitled Top Ranking. You can grab a copy from The Turntable Lab and be sure to read the full article from The Fader.
Shilo Presents: We Make It Good Vol. 03

The other day I was searching the net for a solid mix and I came across the latest volume of, "We Make It Good" featuring Graeme Sinden. I must say this is one of the heaviest hitting mixes of electro, grime, and dub step that I have come across in a while.
Once again, Shilo, the Emmy Award-winning creative production company has hit another home run with their third volume release. Who would of thought that a production company had good taste in music? It has even been rumored that Spank Rock will be featured on a future volume (Very Nice!). Check out We Make It Good for more mixes by Pretty Titty and Chris Devlin.

Are You A Junkie?
Welcome to Genre Junkie!
My very first blog, dedicated to the discovery of different artists and genres of music (as well as other cool stuff I stumble across). As a self proclaimed "genre junkie" the most gratifying thing is to discover a new artist or a new genre of music. Quite often I have been asked by friends, "whose this?" or "what are you playing on your ipod?" Thus, I have decided to start this blog to post new music that I discover as well as other odds and ends.
